Soaking up the Sun at a Cancun Resort!

El Dorado Seaside Resort

Hi friends,

Hope your week is off to a good start! Many of you have asked to hear more about our honeymoon stay at a Cancun resort – and if you’ve read our earlier posts, you know our trip to Mexico was quite the adventure! Swimming with whale sharks, zip-lining and exploring caves at Xplor Mexico – we got a little taste of the amazing activities this country has to offer and it left us hungry for more.

Do you like more adventure or relaxation on your trips? We like a healthy mix of both. But we know many of you just want to relax and enjoy the finer things in life – like laying on the beach with a Pina Colada in hand. So we thought we’d tell you about our experience soaking up the sun and enjoying some ocean-side bliss at a Cancun resort called El Dorado Seaside Suites. This resort was the first stop on our honeymoon and it did not disappoint. We believe there are three key ingredients that make a great resort…

LOCATION

El Dorado Seaside Suites is located in Puerto Aventuras – the heart of Mexico’s Riviera Maya, which is situated about an hour from the Cancun airport. The resort is a bit removed from other local destinations, which makes it a relaxing sanctuary – we felt like we were in a private garden palace as soon as we turned into the driveway, which was a welcome way to start our honeymoon stay. El Dorado Seaside is also situated on Kantenah Bay, a beautiful stretch of beach lined with plush swinging beds that sway with the constant breeze. This amazing beach location offers spectacular snorkeling if you swim the outer reef area (the water is shallow and the resort even offers guided snorkel tours on a daily basis). For those spelunkers out there, Puerto Aventuras is the epicenter for cave exploration, so this is a great place to stay if you want to check out the local cenotes.

SERVICE

The service at El Dorado Seaside is top notch. Upon check in, we were given a pillow menu, festive welcome drink, resort credit, and a hand-crafted Mayan calendar (a special gift for our honeymoon). We were also assigned our own dedicated concierge to tend to our personal requests. Insider tip: Your concierge can also offer you room upgrades for a nominal fee and they often are willing to work on the price with you, depending on room availability.  We started out in a garden room and upgraded to a giant suite on the top floor of the resorts new six-story tower. The room had an incredible beach view and private patio with queen-sized beach bed. We recommend you bring bug spray and After Bite if you plan to spend a lot of time outdoors – we both left the resort covered in mosquito bites, although the beautiful view was worth the minor inconvenience of bug bites.

AMENITIES

El Dorado Seaside is an adults-only all-inclusive resort offering five gourmet restaurants with the most brilliant food you could feast your eyes upon. Our favorite restaurant on property was Klay Talay, which has a delightful asian-fusion menu with sushi, rice bowls, and unlimited drinks, including sake. Klay Talay sets the scene for romance with an expansive outdoor patio draped with red hanging lanterns and secluded couches that overlook swaying palm trees. We ate at this restaurant our first night at the resort and we were lucky enough to be the only ones there for most of our meal.

We quickly learned that this is by far the most popular restaurant at the resort, so if you plan to eat there, we recommend arriving early in the dinner hour, or late at night just before the restaurant closes. The resort also offers a full-service spa, fitness facility and salon. They also have a variety of activities, including ceramics painting and massage technique classes for couples. El Dorado Seaside was a heaven on earth – it was far enough away from the hustle and bustle, but with a the amenities it included, we didn’t want to stray away from the resort for one second.

  1. The Riviera group is always notable for the amenities and services provided on hand. I especially relish the spa in the Riviera Hotel Taipei. It’s such a luck I have been there for a vacation with my folks and took an aromatic spa and drenched in joy to the fullest 🙂

    • Hi Lovisa! The Riviera Hotel Taipei sounds lovely – we wouldn’t mind going for an aromatic spa trip after a long day! 🙂
