Thinking of bringing Fido on your next trip? Carlsbad is one of the most dog friendly destinations in Southern California, with an array of resorts, restaurants, shops and activities to pamper your pet – and yourself too.We recently visited Carlsbad with our chiweenie (aka Chihuahua/Dachshund), Mishka, and we were so impressed with the dog friendly attractions in the area that we’re actually thinking of moving there in the future. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at our Top Five Dog Friendly Attractions in Carlsbad, CA:
1. Ocean Palms Beach Resort
From our luxury ocean view suite, we could hear the sound of waves crashing, birds chirping, skateboarders whizzing by on the sidewalk below, and the laughter of children playing on the beach. We even saw a school of dolphins swimming by right from our window. In our minds, this is everything and more that a SoCal beach vacation should be. Mishka even cuddled up to a Sting Ray…
And, we loved that this resort was within walking distance to each of the following attractions. We didn’t move our car once during our entire stay – perfect for dog owners who want to easily enjoy the local sights with their pup.
2. The Daily News Cafe
Extra extra! Amazing lattes, breakfast burritos, and service with a smile, The Daily News Cafe is the perfect place for you and your furry family member to start the day.
3. Vigilucci’s Seafood & Steakhouse
An elegant brunch complete with a sizzling omelet, Bloody Marys, a to-die-for Cheeseburger and truffle oil fries – AND, the best part, a scenic view of Tamarack State Beach. A quick walk across the street and you’re right on Tamarack’s dog friendly trail.
4. Tamarack State Beach Trail
With a gorgeous view of the coast, this bustling trail is a popular spot to soak up the SoCal sunshine and get some exercise with your favorite four-legged friend.
5. Carlsbad Village Street Fair
This is no ordinary street fair – it features over 900 unique vendors, making it the largest street festival of its kind in the county. It’s only held several times each year and we were lucky enough to experience it for ourselves. The fair offers a little of everything, including arts and crafts, antiques, unique clothing, food from around the world – and LOTS of pet friendly booths with free treats, a pet selfie contest, and even cowgirl hats – YEEHAW! The next Carlsbad Village Faire is scheduled for November 4, so be sure to mark it on your calendar. Your pup will thank you!

Haha! 🙂 We’re sure you would love them, Amanda! 🙂
Great suggestions-but sadly there is not one beach in Carlsbad where you can take Fido!
We just adopted another pup – would love to take our dogs to the beach and see them play in the sand! We had a great time visiting all the cafes and shops in the area though – we were surprised to find so many restaurants that were willing to accommodate dogs. 🙂
